Mystikal Unpredictable Review
Well, Well, Well, I know its been a while since I've done a review but I've decided to come back and do another review one of my favorite rappers from new orleans, mr. prince of the south himself...Mystikal. I've always looked at mystikal as being somewhat of an under looked lyricist due to his unique, yet out of control style where he's yells and raps at rapid-fire speed that would give Twista a run for his money. yet if you really listen and(possibly) catch with his lyrics. There's something special about his him. his undeniable charisma and charm is probably what makes him a favorite. Now that I've have given you my opinion on the hair braided gangsta himself, now the time to get into his second but first no limit album...Unpredictable.
It's amazing looking back, that I don't remember a single or video from this album as typical No Limit albums and artists were rarely heard on the radio(unless if you last name was miller) and this album went platinum in a four weeks. In today's world that would be seen as gift from god. but not for no limit. They had a product and it was selling like crack in the ghetto. however, not everything was always great as no limit was infamous for their cheap productions, jacking songs or styles and hyped up promotion and marketing. Music was always second with No Limit and depending how good the rapper was, it was either hit or miss. However let's see how Mystikal does on his first round with No Limit.
we start off the album with the typical no limit posse song. Something No Limit was famous for and became repetitive and complacent, but in the early days came off great. "Born 2 Be a Soldier" which features Master P, Silkk The Shocker(oh boy), Fiend and M.A.C. Next we get into a personal song called "Murderer 2". Mystikal unleashes his rage on this track on the killer who killed his sister. A series that would follow on the later albums as mystikal imagines killing and torture his sister's killer. Mystikal does get more personal on "Ghetto Child" with Master P & Silkk the Shocker; however it feels really tacked on with mystikal sounding uncomfortable and silkk the shocker giving one of the worst verse in rap history(How the fuck did this guy sell records with that flow?!) But if there is one thing mystikal was always good at was just being the wild venom spitting monster his is. His talent really shines on songs like "Aint No Limit", "Unpredictable" and the underground classic "The Man Right Chea" is Mystikal at his prime. Mystikal feels more at home with these shit talking songs as his charisma and flow really go well on these tracks. He even keeps up with E-40 on "Here We Go" who is famous for his tounge twisted style gets out shined by Mystikal here. DAMN!
However since this is a No Limit Album, the album will go very long and there is going to be nothing but filler songs. "Did I do It", We Got the clout" "Dick on the Track" and "It Yearns". Really hurt this album as these songs are pointless and lazy. But that's how all No limit albums are; long and filler and the beats at times can be very bland and mediocre. for example "U Can't Touch This." Mystikal however does the end the album on a high note with "Shine" A song dedicated to his fallen sister. Mystikal reminisce the good times with his sister and shows he has gotten stronger since the tragedy.
Overall,l despite the filler and the cheap production(Especially coming from a No Limit Album) this was a very enjoyable album.
Mystikal was always one of the strongest rappers from the camp and never disappointed when it came to the music aspect. His lyrics and flow was always on point and one thing that made this album more enjoyable as I will get to when I review more No Limit Album was the lack of guest appearances. A typical No Limit album would feature almost every song with a guest appearance barely letting the rapper getting a chance to shine him or her self. However the guest appearances here were balance as Mystikal prove he can hold his own. Overall, If your a dirty south fan or a mystikal fan for that matter, go cop this, I doubt You'll find it at a high price.
Star Rating **** out of *****
Highlights: The Man Right Chea", "Shine", "Aint No Limit", "Murderer 2".
